The Texas Journal Staff Writer
A collective bargaining bill that would give Texas firefighters and law
enforcement officers collective bargaining rights passed the US House of
Representative on July 17, 2007 in a vote of 317 to 97. The bill currently
awaits approval by the US Senate. The bill was sponsored by Rep. Dale
Kildee (D-MI). The bill faces most of it's opposition in states that have no
collective bargaining rights. States that have no collective bargaining rights
are often referred to as "right to work"states. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison
(R-TX) has stated she will oppose this resolution.
